Morpheme Quest is everything you need to begin teaching morphology confidently! It is the perfect place to start for any classroom teacher, tutor, or family who wants to support children in building their morphemic awareness, grammatical understanding, comprehension, vocabulary and fluency. This workbook can be delivered to a range of ages, ideally from Grade 2 up, and can be adapted as either an intervention or extension resource. Phonics intervention may no longer be appropriate for older students who will take much more away from morphological teaching and learning. Younger students will start their reading journey strong by delving into this workbook from an early age and exploring the meanings of our English language.

Designed by a Dyslexia specialist teacher, this workbook is research and evidence-based, Australian Curriculum aligned, and incorporates MSL (kinaesthetic learning) strategies. We know that the brain learns best through Explicit Direct Instructional (EDI) approaches, reduction of cognitive load during learning and regular reviews of information, spaced appropriately, to store new information in long-term memory. 'Morpheme Quest' links the Science of Reading and 'how our brain learns' to engage students while teaching common morphemes.

English is a morphophonemic language and any exceptional teaching program should incorporate phonology, morphology and Etymology to achieve success in reading. Studies suggest students with Dyslexia struggle with phonemic awareness and identifying phonemes (sounds) in words, and can find reading easier by identifying larger chunks within words instead (morphemes).

I have had many conversations with teachers who have been tasked with creating English morphology lessons and feel spooked or unsure of where to start. Morpheme Quest takes the guesswork and anxiety out of your morphology lessons, and the learning is clear, structured, cumulative and fun! This workbook can be successfully used twice weekly in whole class, small groups or 1:1 sessions. Each page takes approximately 10 minutes to work through properly. Students should not be expected to work through this book independently (except for some games and reviews/assessments), and instead, tasks should be completed alongside a teacher, who will model and scaffold learning.

Some bonuses discovered, once I had spoken to multiple educators, is that not only are all students engaged, on-task and eager to do 'Morpheme Quest' work, but teachers are also building their own morphemic knowledge and gaining clarity around spelling patterns, word families and terminology they may not have known about before.

Build confidence, explore word meanings and strengthen reading skills with Morpheme Quest!
